Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are leading the way when it comes to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), according to a survey by BT Business.
The research revealed that 25 per cent of UK small businesses currently used VoIP and a further 48 per plan to follow suit in the next 12 months.
BT’s research also revealed that 57 per cent of companies with two to ten staff and 48 per cent of sole traders planned to use the low cost communication alternative in the next year.
That was compared to 20 per cent of slightly larger companies with 31 to 50 employees who said they planned to opt for VoIP.
Bill Murphy, managing director, BT Business, said: “There has been a huge increase in the use of VoIP by the UK’s smaller businesses and that looks set to continue.
“However, there is a large proportion of the community, particularly medium sized businesses, who could still benefit from understanding more about VoIP and using it to the best advantage of their business.”
A recent survey by Business Intelligence and mybusiness.net revealed that 80 per cent of SMEs cited the impact of VoIP on their businesses as “significant”.
