Security & Backups




Small to Medium Businesses (SMBs) rely heavily on IT to allow them to effectively compete with larger businesses and remain profitable. Damage caused by security breaches and data loss can cripple any business but statistics show that a large number of small businesses that suffer data loss actually fail in the following 18months. To date we have found that a blend of Symantec security and Veritas backup software works very well, but we pride ourselves on staying Vendor independent and will constantly test new emerging applications.

Security



Our SMB customers need the best of both worlds, a robust and secure network with defence against Virus’s, Trojan applications and spy ware but at Small Business prices. LETN works with each client individually to determine their specific needs. A base level of security is neither expensive nor difficult to implement but will only remain effective if reviewed on a regular basis to ensure protection against emerging threats. For client that require protection for their intellectual property or industry information there are many levels of security available, from Edge security like firewalls and DMZs (Demilitarised Zone) to internal policy driven security to prevent employee data theft.     With new rules emerging on Data Protection and keeping company records, LETN have worked hard with many of our clients to ensure they have the ability to recover data quickly and easily from archive. Using industry standard techniques we have helped many of our customers who are regulated by third parties become compliant with their industries required policies.

    There are two elements to consider with backups, Disaster Recovery & Storage Resource Management.

    Disaster Recovery provides protection for your business from hardware failure, fire or theft. Enabling your business to quickly recover business data from either a tape or second site to get your business back on its feet before it is damaged. This is typically achieved using Tape Technology and software or Replication Technology that maintains a synchronised copy of the data at another site (this can be another office or a hosted environment provided by LETN).     Storage Resource Management is about managing your IT in an efficient and cost effective manner. In recent years Hard Drive (HDD) technology has come down in price significantly making it easier to quickly add more capacity to networks. This has an unfortunate side effect of encouraging employees to create data without constraint putting pressure on the backup solution to keep up. LETN will work with your managers to actively manage what data is current and what can be archived away from the backup routine. This increases the lifespan of your existing solutions and makes best use of network HDD space.
